Instructor Crossover Information

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Course is designed for current instructors from other recreational scuba agencies who desire to start teaching PADI courses. The program acknowledges that particpants are already scuba instructors with some degree of experience and teaching ability, so it focuses on allowing them to become more familiar with the PADI system of diver education, rather than on developing basic teaching techniques. Individuals who enroll in the OWSI are also eligible to enroll a PADI Instructor Development Course.

Course Prerequisites:
To enroll in a PADI OWSI, the individual must:
1. Be certified as a current instructor member in good standing with another recreational diver training organization. The individual must have been an instructor for at least 6 months with one of the following organizations: BSAC (advanced Instructor or higher), CMAS (two or three star), FAUI, IDEA, Los Angeles County, MDEA, NASDS, NAUI, PDIC, SSI, SAA (Instructor Grade 2 or higher), or YMCA.
2. Be at least 18 years old.
3. Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement from an examination not more than 12 months old.
4. Have been certified as a diver for at least 6 months and have completed and logged at least 60 dives.
5. Submit proof of CPR training within the past 24 months.
